Enyimba Football Club chairman Nwankwo Kanu has issued a strong warning to the club’s coaching staff and players, led by George Finidi, following last week’s dismal performance, reports Soccernet.ng.
Kanu’s disciplinary action follows the team’s embarrassing loss to Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca in the inaugural African Football League (AFL).
The current Nigerian champion suffered a 0:4 defeat in matches in Uyo and Casablanca.
The two-time Champions League winner was expected to pose a bigger challenge for Wydad, but he lost 1-0 to the Moroccans last weekend.
The People’s Elephants suffered a 3-0 loss on Wednesday despite vowing to take a lot of meat from their opponents.
Aside from Enyimba’s dual threat against Wydayi, Aba’s Giants have not lived up to expectations so far this season.
Earlier, Enyinba’s hopes were dashed when they were eliminated by Libya’s Al Ahli Benghazi in the qualifying round of the CAF Champions League.
In the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), People’s Elephants lost 2-0 against Gombe United but narrowly won 3-2 at home against Akwa United.
Following the mediocre result, Enyimba’s management called on the club’s coaches and players to redouble their efforts to recover their fortunes.

When Nigeria won the bronze medal at the 2000 African Cup of Nations, the board, led by Kanu, who was a Super Eagles teammate with Finidi, did everything possible, both financially and morally, to support the team. He reiterated his determination to do whatever it takes. .
However, it was emphasized that if rapid improvement is not seen, the association will not hesitate to take necessary measures.
Enyimba’s next challenge will be this Wednesday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) midweek match against Niger Tornados.
