Osimhen’s contract expires in 2025, but he is not ready to sign a contract extension with Napoli
Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson is confident that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will eventually join Chelsea, reports Soccernet.ng.
Osimhen is currently one of the best strikers in the world. After his outstanding performance with Napoli, he attracted the attention of some of the best clubs in the world.
Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich were interested in signing the Nigerian striker last summer, but Napoli refused to let him go. Instead, they held talks with him to extend his contract with the club.
However, Osimhen refused to sign a new contract. And with just over 18 months remaining on his contract, several top teams are hoping to replace him. Osimhen is a big fan of the Premier League and Chelsea is a likely destination.
Former Chelsea star Johnson, meanwhile, is confident Osimhen will eventually join the Blues.
“I think Victor (Osimhen) definitely wants to move to Chelsea, no matter what happens at Napoli,” Johnson said ChelsTransfer.
“But Victor will be annoyed that this move could happen at a time when Chelsea are in transition. Of course they are a big team and will bounce back eventually .
“But as long as Victor waits about 18 months, he will still want to sign in January.”
Given his current situation, it is unlikely that Napoli will let Osimhen leave on a free transfer. Club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis is known to be a shrewd businessman and he is likely to seek to profit from Osimhen’s departure.
