The Daily Mail has reported that English players will not be able to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) through the 2024 season. As he prepares for the T20 World Cup in 2024, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) wants its players to be available for the main event.
The England team will win the title in 2022 and enter the tournament as the defending champions. The England team has been mired in cricket’s purpura, having enjoyed success in both white-ball and red-ball formats since their victory in the 2019 ODI World Cup on home soil, but not in the 2023 ODI World Cup. I missed out on winning. They failed spectacularly, underperforming against many weaker opponents.
Jos Buttler’s team looked to defend their ODI World Cup title in India but had a terrible season in subcontinental conditions. England narrowly missed out on qualifying for the 2025 Champions Trophy, but managed to earn points in the table, finishing eighth.
The ECB wants its players to focus on defending their T20 World Cup victory to prevent a repeat of this disaster. England will host a Pakistan team featuring four T20 internationals as they prepare for the main event in the West Indies and the United States.
T20 Internationals against England will be held at Leeds (May 22), Birmingham (May 25), Cardiff (May 28) and the London Oval (May 30).
Several English players have been active in the IPL, especially captain Jos Buttler. Harry Brook, Jofra Archer, Sam Curran,Ben Stokes, Mark Wood, Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali are other players in the cash-rich league.
Jos Buttler’s England white-ball side will face the Men in Maroons after the ODI World Cup to strengthen their preparations for the 2024 T20 World Cup. It will be interesting to see if England arrive in full squad as they face India in an exciting five-match Test series starting in January.
