Mercedes has announced that Mike Elliott will retire from Formula 1 duties before the end of the 2023 season.
Elliott has been appointed technical director from 2021 after James Allison became Mercedes’ chief technology officer. However, the team had problems with their vehicle concept and lost to Red Bull, so they moved the position back to the front in 2023.
Alison has returned to the role of technical director and Elliott has returned to the role of chief technology officer. However, he has decided to leave the position ahead of the end of his F1 season in 2023, with Tuesday being his last day of work at the Brackley base.
Elliott will leave the sport after 11 years at Mercedes before moving on to his next venture. “Mike has been one of the pillars of our team’s success over the past 10 years, and it is with really mixed feelings that we say goodbye to him today,” said Wolff.
“Mike is a highly intelligent, technical mind and a great team player. He has contributed tremendously not only to winning race cars, but also to building the culture of our team. But on the other hand, it’s clear that he’s ready for a new adventure beyond Mercedes, so I know this is the right step for him too.
“He leaves today to thank the team for the commitment, dedication and expertise he has brought to the team over the past 11 years and to wish him well for the future.” Elliott announced his role with Mercedes, adding: Ta. : “Being part of this Mercedes team was one of the great privileges of my career.”
“I’ve watched it grow from a group of people who came together to win races to winning their first championship and winning a record eight consecutive constructors’ championships. – and I’m proud to have achieved this. I have contributed to this journey.
“The last two seasons we didn’t win the races we wanted, but they tested us in many other ways and gave us confidence in how we performed. It forced us to question our fundamental assumptions.” I enjoy developing the technology strategy that will be the foundation of the team’s next cycle of success.
“I have decided that now is the right time to take the next step beyond Mercedes. First, I have stopped and, after 23 years of giving my all in this sport, I have taken time to reflect.
