The second day of the 2024 F1 Bahrain test went well apart from a red flag incident where Ferrari pulled Red Bull away from the front.
The second day of the 2024 F1 Bahrain test went as smoothly as the first day, with the exception of a red flag incident where the drain cover came off. Although we lost some time, we were able to extend the afternoon session by having an early lunch.
Ferrari took top spot courtesy of Carlos Sainz after the Spaniard’s C4 run. Just like Red Bull, who were forced to switch to a single rider, the Italian manufacturer completed another high mileage day, while he continued to work hard despite only running for half a day.
Originally the plan was to split the day, but Sergio Perez faced several problems throughout the day, so he ran it throughout the day. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton also had a full day as he got the chance to score for the first time in his farewell season.
The Brits were happy with how the day went and looked better than they did this time last year. On this day, Williams joined Red Bull and Mercedes as the sole driver, with Logan Sargent riding along all day. He was able to complete over his 100 laps.
Williams still faced problems, but was able to fix them so Sargent could run. McLaren were also plagued by some issues that affected the mileage of both drivers, particularly Lando Norris in the afternoon. The second day the lap numbers were in the lower range.
Aston Martin, Alpine, Stake F1 Team, Haas, Visa Cash App RB and others have run the program as expected and reported no major issues, with some aiming for a round of glory.
Carlos Sainz: “Another day of testing went according to plan and without any problems. We combined various tests with low and high fuel consumption driving. We were able to successfully complete the entire afternoon program, so it was interesting to get a feel for this year’s car in different configurations. We’re looking forward to the final session tomorrow morning, but we’ll continue to look forward to the long runs. I will concentrate on that.”
Charles Leclerc: “The first two days went well as I completed the entire program. However, I cannot say how competitive I am at this stage.” I think I’ll get the first time. We’ll find out where we stand in next week’s qualifying round. Today and yesterday we made some general changes to the car and shifted our focus to fine-tuning the setup on the final day of testing. ”
Sergio Perez: “It was unexpected to be in the car all day today, but the first few runs were canceled due to delays, so the team Deciding to extend the day, I said, “I’m sitting in the car again” and I’ll get in the car again tomorrow morning. In general, I think the RB20 is a step forward for the team and a step in the right direction for ourselves. It’s tough here from morning to afternoon. The route changes every trip, so you have to get used to the set-up, get used to different set-ups, and rely heavily on your senses. To start the season off on the right foot, I spent the winter working on understanding last season from a personal perspective. Humans always want to learn and always improve. He will be the same for me in 2024. ”
Lewis Hamilton: “It was a productive day on the ground. We learned a lot about the W15, both from the long runs and the individual lap work. Car of the Year has definitely improved and is much more fun to drive.A huge thank you to everyone in Brackley and Brixworth for their hard work over the past year to make this happen. I really appreciate your efforts. Of course, we still have to make progress. But this is a good foundation on which we can build. We will keep our heads down and continue to improve as testing progresses and into next week. I’m looking forward to getting back in the car tomorrow morning and continuing my learning. ”
Lando Norris: “Another day of testing is over. Today we had a few small issues that set us back, especially with high fuel consumption, so We didn’t perform as well as we expected in the practice session. We still have some work to do in terms of the balance of the car, but we still have a lot to learn, so that’s a good thing. We have to address it tonight. There’s a lot to do, and some other things to look into tomorrow.”
Oscar Piastri: “Today’s morning was a little shorter than planned due to the red flags, but it was still a very productive session. We worked on the setup while setting up the car. We’ve put in a lot of work focusing on the 2020. The pace seems to be right and the test program is progressing well. Today was another productive day and I’m looking forward to doing more laps tomorrow. ”
Esteban Ocon: “It was a very long session today and we covered a lot of ground in the afternoon. I missed a bit of track time in the morning due to the break, but somehow We were able to get back up and complete the program that we had hoped to complete in the morning. We improved the car throughout the day, but we also wanted to test the car in different conditions that would be more reflective of next weekend’s Grand Prix. It was nice to be able to do it. We raced a little bit towards the end and it was fun too. Usually things like this don’t happen during testing, but this time everyone was pretty excited and we had to race a little bit towards the end. It was very exciting as we headed out, there were several cars lined up and sparks flying everywhere. I definitely feel like racing right now! ”
Pierre Gasly: “It was a good day for the Bahraini team, with a lot of testing and data to analyze. Aborted due to a red flag. This is never ideal as I wasn’t able to complete the entire program, but that’s how it is sometimes. Looking forward to getting back on the machine tomorrow afternoon and continuing to optimize the package. We continue to understand that the car is different every time we take it to the track, and we are doing everything we can to maximize our learning for the first race of the season. The day was shorter than expected, so my time in the car tomorrow will be very important. ”
Valtteri Bottas: “It was another good day at the circuit. We collected a lot of data over 130 laps, but when we took part in the afternoon session, which is close to what we will experience next week, The driving felt smooth and even better than yesterday when we had cooler road conditions. In terms of balance, I think we’ve made progress and performed a little bit better. It feels good for sure. But there is always room for improvement and that is the direction we are heading tomorrow, trying to achieve as much as we can from the last day of testing.”
Zhou Guanyu: “We had another good day of testing today. We have clearly made some progress compared to yesterday, and we hope to collect more valuable data and insights. Unfortunately, I had to end my morning run early due to a red flag, but luckily I was able to complete my planned program without any compromises. We have one more day tomorrow to get the car feeling good for the race.”
Logan Sargent: “We still had some issues throughout the day, but the red flags definitely helped with the long sessions. Overall it was a positive day .We are making good progress in the right direction and we know where we are going. There are some things to improve on, but there are a lot of good things, but we have gotten more comfortable as the days go by. So I’m looking forward to getting back into the rhythm. I’ve been struggling with the car more than I expected, but these things will settle down soon. There are still some great experiences to be had before next weekend. I actually would have preferred another day as the test was over so quickly, but it will be great to see Alex in the car tomorrow and be able to continue testing the car. ”
Kevin Magnussen: “I think today was another good day for us as we focused on the race and high fuel performance and worked on the same issues as yesterday.” Our main The focus is on tire issues. Last year was very interesting. I think we’ve made some progress and there’s certainly a lot of work to do, but we’re moving in the right direction. I don’t know how fast. I would be surprised if we were in a completely different position than last year, but I think the condition of the tires is a little better. It is very difficult to draw conclusions from riding in specific conditions and routes. But for now, there is a silver lining to last year’s problems. ”
Nico Hulkenberg: “Yesterday was very good. We had a lot of work to do. We did a lot of laps and did a good job.” This morning’s race was canceled due to problems with the track. So I obviously lost some time, but so far everything is going well. I think we’re already doing a good job and we’re seeing progress and improvement compared to 12 months ago, so that’s good news, but it’s still going to be a difficult time. ”
