Spanish third-tier side AD Ceuta have approved the transfer of exciting young midfielder Crisstantus Ugona Uche to La Liga team Getafe, Soccernet.ng reports.
For Uche, this is a meteoric rise to the top of Spanish football. Just 14 months earlier, Uche was playing soccer with friends and neighbors in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria.
Uche arrived in Spain in July 2022 to join Molaro CP of the country’s third tier, Tercera DivisiĆ³n Rfef.
The youngster did not need any time to settle in and immediately impressed, appearing in 17 league games for the Extremadura team.
Uche attracted the attention of Ceuta with his excellent performances and the club secured his contract ahead of the 2023-2024 season.
The plan was to bring the young midfielder to the club and incorporate him into the reserve team to see how he develops.
However, Uche was outstanding from the first day off, prompting head coach Jose Juan Romero to include him in the first team.
The Owerri-born boy did not disappoint. In Primera DivisiĆ³n Rfef he appeared in 22 matches and recorded 1 assist.
And just seven months after his stay in Ceuta, Uche was attracting strong interest from La Liga sides Getafe and Real Betis.
However, it was the former who won the race to sign him, signing the youngster to a two-year contract for an undisclosed transfer fee. Ceuta are also said to have included a financial clause in his contract giving the club 20 per cent of Uche’s future transfer fees.
The 20-year-old will remain at Ceuta for the next few weeks and will join Getafe’s first team permanently at the end of the season.
