The Chippa United goalkeeper continues to receive recognition after his impressive performance at AFCON

Rivers State Governor Siminarayi Hubala has awarded Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabari the second highest award in the state, Soccernet.ng reported.

Nwabari was awarded the Rivers State Lifetime Achievement Star Award for his outstanding performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.

The Rivers State Star of Special Merit is second only to the highest award in the country, the Rivers State Major Merit Star (GSSRS).

Nwabari became the darling of millions of football-loving Nigerians after becoming Nigeria’s biggest revelation at AFCON.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper did not play for Nigeria until the Super Eagles’ first match in Ivory Coast, but he finished the continental championship as one of the best goalkeepers.

Nwabali kept four clean sheets and helped the Eagles reach the finals for the first time in 11 years.

The Chippa United goalkeeper, along with his Super Eagles teammates and team officials, has already received the Order of the Niger (MON) award from Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He will now add the Rivers State Distinguished Player to his esteemed collection.

Governor Hubara also announced a reward of N20 million to Mr. Nwabali.

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peceiro and his assistant George Finidi also attended the ceremony and also received a gift of N30 million.
