England suffered a horrendous collapse against Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru today (October 26), leading to lots of extreme reactions from the English cricket community.
After suffering a crushing 229-run defeat against South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, England needed to be at their best against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru to stay in the tournament.
England learned from their mistake in Mumbai and opted to bat after winning the toss. However, after that, his batting performance was again mixed. England collapsed from his 45-0 to his 85-5 and then from 122-5 to 156 all out, his ODI total for the whole team being the lowest in Bangalore.
Ben Stokes was the only batsman to cross 40 trying to keep the end alive. England were bowled out in his second over as wickets fell in the 31st over, and any hopes of posting a competitive total disappeared.
England have already lost three of their first four matches in the 2023 World Cup and this performance has sparked a number of extreme reactions from the English cricket community.

Doesn’t matter about the format or the venue. England’s tactics seem to be: Ben, give us a miracle.

STAT 3: England’s 85-5 today is the lowest score at which they’ve lost their 5th wicket when batting first in a World Cup match since they were 35-5 v Australia in the 1975 semi-final. https://t.co/aE4CdJ0R65
