Days After India Snub, Yuzvendra Chahal Snares Nifty List A Five-For

Ace India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal started off the 2023/24 domestic season on a high, picking a six-for for Haryana in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match in Ahmedabad today (November 23).

India’s 2023-24 domestic season began today (November 23) with the first round matches of India’s premier List A tournament, the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who plays for his home state of Haryana, took six wickets in the first match of the season. In the match against Uttarakhand played at his ADSA Railway Cricket Ground in Ahmedabad, Haryana won the toss and were clinched first place.

Kunal Chandela and Jiwanjot Singh gave Uttarakhand a good start, adding 60 for the first wicket before a stunning collapse saw them fall to 100-5. Former Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper Aditya Tare then persevered around low-middle and revived his innings with a 68-ball 65. In the end, he was bowled out for 207 in 47.4 overs.

But the story of the innings was Chahal’s six fours. The Indian leg-spinner entered the game as the fifth bowler and took his first wicket in the 18th over by trapping Jiwanjot in front of the wicket. He further took his two wickets in this spell. In the 23rd over Swapnil he got the wicket of Singh and in the 25th over he got the wicket of Negi, reducing Uttarakhand to 5 for his 100.

But Chahal was not finished yet. He took his two wickets in his 41st over and Tare’s wicket in his 47th over, causing a late collapse to take Uttarakhand from his 207-7 to his 207.

Chahal posted records of 10 wins, 2 losses, 26 wins, and 6 losses, close to his best record in List A cricket (6 wins, 24 losses).

Chahal’s accomplishments are particularly important because they are based on contempt for India. The BCCI announced the Indian squad for the five-match T20I series against Australia today (November 23), a day after the 2023 World Cup final. Chahal, India’s highest wicket-taker in the shortest format, was not considered as Ravi Bishnoi was preferred over him.

He responded to the exclusion with cryptic posts on social media and is now responding with a strong performance on the field.
