Cricket Australia has asked the Bangladesh Cricket Board to postpone the two-match Test series currently scheduled for the 2027 season. Additionally, Cricket Australia is set to extend its pre-series three-match Test series against New Zealand.
According to the Future Tour program, Bangladesh was scheduled to visit Australia in March 2027, but the hosts now hope to play the series in August-September 2026. As reported by Cricbuzz, the request comes as Australia prepares to host two Test matches in Melbourne, including a special 150th anniversary Test against England in the summer of 2026/27. It was done while I was there.
“They (CA) have asked us to postpone the dates (tour of the 2027 Test series) and we are still in talks. They have plans to celebrate their 150th anniversary. They have and it is a national initiative. That is why they want to postpone the Test series against us and they are working on it,” BCB Managing Director Nizamuddin Chaudhry said.
Bangladesh team has played just one Test series in Australia since gaining Test status in 2003 with a two-match tour. Bangla Tigers were scheduled to play two Tests and three One-Day Internationals (ODIs). They played against Australia in 2018, but the tour was canceled because broadcasters were not interested in the series.
Due to safety concerns, the Australian team refused to travel to Bangladesh in 2015 and instead played against each other in the 2017 series, a format that resulted in a final between the teams. Bangladesh was also scheduled to host Australia in 2020, but that series was also canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) board has announced the schedule for the upcoming BPL. His T20 franchise league for Bangladesh will start from January 19, although there will be a slight delay due to the national elections.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday announced the tournament schedule to be held from January 19 to March 1. The opening match will see defending champions Comilla Victorians take on newcomers Dhaka. Sylhet Strikers will play against Chattogram Challengers on the same day.
Except for the second round on February 27th and the final on March 1st, all remaining days will be doubleheaders with two games per day.
