Watch: Western Australia opener Cameron Bancroft takes a screamer off a pull shot at short leg on Day 4 of a Sheffield Shield match against Victoria on October 7.
Bancroft is used to making great catches at close range. Steve’s War once praised him as the best bat pad fielder he had ever seen, and Bancroft lived up to that praise here.
On the penultimate ball of the 74th over, left-arm seamer Liam Haskett aimed for the ribs of Victoria University captain Will Sutherland. Sutherland pulled the ball out of his blind spot and tried to control it, but he missed his shot.
Bancroft stood with short legs and immediately extended his right hand as Sutherland threw a punch. In an instant, he snatched the ball from the lean year and pocketed the Stunner with one hand. His teammates couldn’t believe what they were seeing and ran up to Bancroft to congratulate him.
Previously, Bancroft had an impressive 122 of 319 innings for a total of 481 innings compared to Victoria’s 256 innings. The Victorian team was unable to recover from their initial deficit and lost the game with one inning and 53 runs.
