Bhuvneshwar Kumar has become only the fifth bowler with five T20 five-fors in men’s T20s, achieving the feat during the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy clash between Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has an impressive T20 record. In his 267 matches he took 282 wickets at an average of 24.675, with a five-wicket haul and an equal number of five-fors. His last record came in his domestic T20 match played on Wednesday. India.
He played for Uttar Pradesh and took Karnataka’s last five wickets and entered the record books with five five-wicket hauls in this format. Currently, the player with the most five wins in T20s is David Wiese (six), while Lasith Malinga, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shakib Al Hasan also have five each.
While Lukman Meriwala and Ankit Rajput have achieved three T20s each, no other Indian has achieved five fives four times.
This was Bhuvneshwar’s second five-wicket haul of 2023. Previously, he had won his IPL matches against Sunrisers against Hyderabad and Gujarat against Titans with his five wickets. He has also scored his five goals in T20Is twice, against South Africa in 2018 and against Afghanistan last year.
Overall, Bhuvneshwar is the 13th highest wicket-taker among quicks in the men’s T20 tournament and has the most scalps among Indian fast bowlers. Malinga and Mohammad Amir are the only two of his fast bowlers who have taken 280 T20 wickets and have a better economy rating than Kumar (7.20).
