Australia Women’s Squad For India Tour Announced Without A Captain Alyssa Healy And Darcie Brown Included

Australia on Tuesday named a 16-member women’s team for the upcoming tour of India in December and January. Alyssa Healy and Darcey Brown were among those who did it. Following the retirement of Meg Lanning, the current Australian women’s captain will be announced before the tour.

One Test, three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals will be held at two venues in Mumbai during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Warm-up matches against local opponents will be played as part of the preparations in Mumbai.

Vice-captain Healy, who represented Lanning during his absence last year, is considered the frontrunner and has put his name forward for the vacant position.

Australia’s leadership has begun a search for Lanning’s full-time replacement, with an announcement expected closer to the trip. His one-off Test, with Australia visiting India for the first time since 1984, will begin in Mumbai on December 21, followed by his three-match ODI and T20I series.

Darcie Brown And Lauren Cheatle Return To The Australia Squad

D’Arcy Brown has been out of action since sustaining a hamstring injury in the first One-Day International against West Indies in Brisbane on October 8. She will share new ball duties with her Cheatle, returning left-hander Lauren, who has not played for Australia since March 2019.

Cheatle, who was only named in the Test squad, put in an eye-catching performance during the Australia A tour of England in June, taking 11 wickets in five matches.

Australia’s line-up is almost identical to the one that won the Ashes series in July. Top batter Phoebe Litchfield, 20, is expected to follow in Lanning’s footsteps. The games will be held at his two different venues in Mumbai.
