Australia Debutant Xavier Bartlett Takes Wicket Off His Third ODI Ball, Rattles Off Stump With Swinging Peach

Watch: Australia debutant Xavier Bartlett announced his arrival in international cricket with a stunning delivery to dismiss West Indies opener Justin Greaves in the first Australia West Indies ODI in Melbourne.

Bartlett made his debut alongside Lance Morris in Australia’s new pace attack, winning the toss and electing to bowl. Morris and Bartlett started the bowling attack, with Sean Abbott as the third seamer.

After the second over, Bartlett hit only his third ball in international cricket. He pitched it towards the stumps and angled it, the ball straightened and swung it off to take the top of the stumps. With his feet stuck, Greaves was unable to counter the movement and ultimately lost his wicket.

Bartlett had a record of 9 wins, 1 win, 17 wins, and 4 losses. This was the best performance by an Australian bowler on debut since his five-wicket win against Sri Lanka in 1988 when modern-day Tony He Dodemide won against Sri Lanka.

He also dismissed another opener, Arik Athanadze, along with captain Shai Hope and Gudakesh Motier as West Indies were bowled out for 231 in 49 overs.
