‘Australia 450-2, India 65 All Out’ – Mitchell Marsh Prophesies World Cup 2023 Final

Back in May 2023, Mitchell Marsh had put forth his prediction for the World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia on November 19 in Ahmedabad.

Marsh, in a podcast hosted by his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals (DC), predicted that Australia would beat India by 385 runs in the 2023 World Cup final.

Although this prediction was almost certainly a joke, Australia’s record of winning the Silver Cup five times (1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015) is impressive.

Marsh has been in good form with the bat lately, scoring 426 runs at an average of 53.25 and hitting an impressive 108. He predicted that Australia would beat India with his 450-2 and his measly score of 65.

Marsh said on the DC Podcast: “Australia will remain unbeaten and beat India in the final, Australia will win 450-2 and India will win by a total of 65.”

The prediction that the two teams would meet in the final was correct, but India, not Australia, is the only unbeaten team in the World Cup with 10 wins from 10 matches, including a victory over New Zealand in the semi-finals.

On the other hand, Australia suffered early losses to India and South Africa, but were unable to advance after that, winning seven consecutive group games and defeating South Africa in a close match in the semifinals. It will be his second encounter with India in a World Cup final, 20 years after Ricky Ponting led India to victory.

In 2003, Ponting’s 121-ball 140, supported by Damien Martyn’s unbeaten 84-ball 88, led Australia to 359-2. Faced with a daunting target, India had no chances and were clean bowled for 234 runs in 39.2 overs, with Virender Sehwag (82 off 81) the only bright spot.

In this World Cup, India hopes to avenge this defeat and end their 10-year streak of not winning a trophy in an ICC tournament.
