Andy Murray makes huge coaching decision in fresh attempt to revitalise career
Andy Murray has parted ways with coach Ivan Lendl, perhaps for the last time.
Lendl was Murray’s coach when he won all three majors and it was hoped that last year’s reunion would help him deliver his best performance in Scotland.
However, the old magic could not be recreated and instead Murray experienced a very difficult season.
Mark Hilton and Johnny O’Mara, who coached Murray alongside Lendl, will now share coaching duties.
“Ivan has been by my side through the biggest moments of my career and I can’t thank him enough for everything he’s helped me do,” Murray said.
“He’s a unique guy who knows what it takes to win, and I’ve learned a lot from him over the years.”
Ivan Lendl added: “I look back with great memories of Andy and I working together.
“He is a hard worker and the sport has become even better because of him. I wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Murray first parted ways with Lendl in 2014 due to concerns about how much time he wanted to spend on the ATP Tour. However, two years later they resumed their partnership, and Murray soon won his second Wimbledon.
A demoralizing loss at the Paris Masters ended Murray’s regular season last month, but he is part of the British squad for the Davis Cup final later this month.
He has also started planning for 2024 and has already confirmed where he will start the season.
What does Ivan Lendl split mean for Andy Murray?

There is no doubt that further speculation will inevitably arise about his future in tennis. Ivan Lendl should be a safe choice for Murray given their past success together.
Actually, his state of mind could have easily turned into this. If Lendl can’t revive Murray’s career, no one can.
But this probably just represents a new chapter in Murray’s career. He is now 36 years old and playing at the metal hip, so talk of his retirement comes as no surprise.
Murray may feel he needs a high-intensity conditioning coach who specializes in sports science rather than tennis at this point. At this stage of his career, it’s all about him being on the pitch and competing physically.
