Alonso lists Top 5 races of 2023 as he feels win potential was there

Fernando Alonso believes the Monza weekend was particularly victorious, saying it was the best in F1 in 2023.

After a long break, Aston Martin’s Alonso was back to his old self, scoring multiple podiums in a season rather than just getting lucky. This year he had the pace to secure performances, even if his performances declined towards the end of his F1 season.

This year reminded him of 2012 in terms of performance, calling it one of the best seasons of his career. There were moments when he could have won and he feels Aston Martin deserved to win a few times.

Despite scoring multiple podiums, Alonso feels his race at Monza was great despite finishing ninth. The course was not suitable for the car, so there were big moments to score points, even bigger than the podium at Zandvoort, where the car did well.

“As far as personal performance is concerned, I think this year together with 2012 was the best season for me, the best season of my driving career. I was happy with everything,” Alonso told the media. Told. “My motivation increased and I felt good. I was satisfied with my performance under sometimes difficult conditions.

“Bahrain, Monaco, Canada, Monza and Brazil would be my top five this year. And I intentionally chose Monza because it was a 9th place finish. It wasn’t a podium. However, our car was probably the slowest or second slowest at Monza.

“And when you get into the points, it was one of those weekends where everything went very well. Zandvoort, no, because we had a good car,” summed up Alonso, when asked about his chances of winning. Then, he won the Dutch Grand Prix along with Monaco.

“Monaco was probably the closest for a tire change or something,” Alonso continued. “If we were in a different position in this restart or something, it could have been Zandvoort. We probably had a chance to win here and there and yeah, we deserved it as much as anyone else this year. I think so.”
