Alonso also wished to work with Newey; will get to drive Valkyrie

Fernando Alonso says he wishes he could have driven an Aston Martin Valkyrie and worked with Adrian Newey.

Despite his long career in F 1, Alonso never had the chance to work with Newey, who had been a mainstay at Red Bull for many years. The Englishman did not leave the team for many years after joining, and the Spaniard never had the opportunity to drive for the team.

They almost worked together at times, but it didn’t work out and it doesn’t seem like they will ever work together again. But Alonso will have the chance to push Newey’s brain when testing his Valkyrie at Aston Martin in the future.

Before Aston Martin became its own F1 team, Aston Martin was a partner of Red Bull and Newey helped establish Valkyrie. “He read an article a few months ago (that Newey wanted to work with me),” Alonso said. “He’s a legend in this sport. We’ve worked closely together several times and talked about it.

“I remember when he published this book a few years ago, I had the privilege of designing the first page in Spain. Even if he wasn’t, I was lucky enough to work in the same environment as him, and he is truly a wonderful person.

“I’m happy to live and drive in an era when Adrian Newey was building F1 cars.” I hope to work with him someday. “I’m going to drive my Aston Martin his Valkyrie at home. Then I might feel something and it will make me happy,” Alonso summed up.
