Alfa Romeo duo Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou were happy with double points after a successful F1 GP in Qatar.
Amid gloomy recent races, Alfa Romeo achieved a double points finish at the F1 Qatar GP, with Bottas finishing in a comfortable 8th place and Guanyu taking the Chinese lead thanks to penalties against Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez. He finished 9th behind the driver.
This was not only the first double points achievement in F1 in 2023, but also the first since the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix. This result actually helped him overtake Haas in the Constructors’ Championship, and he now has a 16 lead over Team Name in 8th place. The former, on the other hand, had him 12 with five laps left.
It was a straightforward Qatar GP for Alfa Romeo, with both Bottas and Guanyu having no problems. The Finnish player ran inside the top 10 most of the time, but the Chinese player hovered around him, and with some luck from others, he made it into the top 10.
Both Alfa Romeo drivers feel that the double points win is a great reward, considering the updates from recent races. “It was a great way to end a difficult start to the weekend,” Bottas said. “It’s an enriching feeling for everyone, both those who come to the factory and those who return to the factory. Starting from 19th place and finishing last on the grid, winning points on pace alone was very special. .
“From my perspective, we did everything right and the pace was actually very fast. I think we were in the top 10 for most of the race, so we were right where we should have been. I’m really happy to finally get two points for the team.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Guanyu added: “Of course I’m very happy. It’s great for the team to double the points. It’s a big win for me to get four points, but it’s also great for the whole team. We’re upgrading. I think we’ve learned a lot about it and now we’re starting to take advantage of it more.Of course the course may have favored us a little bit, but at least we’re a little bit stronger than we were in previous races. I can see it, and I’m satisfied with that.”
