Albon rues missed chance along with Haas pair, Ricciardo & Piastri

Alexander Albon talks to the Haas pair about their crash defeat at the Brazilian Grand Prix, where Oscar Piastri and Daniel Ricciardo Roux collided.

The F1 Brazilian Grand Prix got off to a rocky start with nearly five cars retiring, but only two had retired by the time the red flag was waved. As a result, Ricciardo from AlphaTauri and Piastri from McLaren managed to have their cars repaired by their mechanics and they were saved.

Even Haas managed to restore Nico Hulkenberg’s car. Nico Hulkenberg was hit by the Williams’ Albon as his German teammate Magnussen approached from the left, crushing him and forcing him to approach the Thai driver, who was brought to the right. This caused a conflict between the other two.

Albon and Magnussen both suffered the most, but both remained positive about the Grand Prix. The Thai felt it was a missed opportunity for Williams, who were locked in a battle with AlphaTauri, who are currently on the upswing, in a race where many have failed.

Magnussen and Hulkenberg are also trying to regain their lost championship positions. Although it was a blow for Piastri, Ricciardo was apparently disappointed as he had seen the pace of his teammate Hiroki Tsunoda and felt he had points to gain.

At first he was relieved to see the accident, but a flying tire hit his rear wing and he and Piastri almost retired from the race when Magnussen hit him in the rear. At this point they were one lap behind him, so it was almost a test session.

That’s what the driver said –

Albon: “In the last three races, Mexico, Saturday’s sprint race and Sunday’s race, we were first at the start. We had a very good start for the third year in a row. You could cut it. Sometimes it works out, like in Mexico. And sometimes, like here, it works against you. It’s very frustrating. I don’t think I could have done anything different. I was as far right as I could. I think that the Haas on the left was likely blindsided, went across a little bit, squeezed the middle Haas, and that was it. It was actually a big hit, you never want something like this head-on because obviously you get that motion which is never that nice but I am fine. I’m more just frustrated about having a good start going for nothing.

“We were ahead of the two Haas cars, they would support us, they would direct the traffic and if we could get past them at the start of the race we would really have a chance. We would have had a good chance.” Collect points. It was only 100 meters, but after 100 meters it seemed like we were heading in the right direction. I mean, that’s what happens, it’s just a shame because Ferrari is out, Daniel is one lap down, Piastri is one lap down, we have a chance to get points and that’s the race where we do well. That’s because I don’t want a race like that. . Now, one of the championship contestants can participate. More important than scoring points is keeping other players from scoring. So if I don’t want to earn points, I’ll stop the right people who should earn points. I would like Alfa Romeo to score more points than AlphaTauri. ”

Magnussen: “Okay, I was unlucky. I had a really good start and the soft tires felt really good, so I told the engineer it might be good. I felt really positive when I was in the car, which is typical and unfortunate. I’m a little frustrated because I’ve hit a wall twice now through no fault of my own. I think Albon pushed Nico and made contact, sending Albon into me like a chain reaction. That’s what it is. ”

Hülkenberg: “Both cars fascinated me. They wanted to come and kiss me, so I was allowed to kiss them. They went back and I don’t think it will come. There was a small amount of damage to the sidepod of my car, but it was repaired at the time of the red flag. To be honest, it was very similar to Qatar and for me it was a bit of deja vu. It all happened so fast. Alex is on my right and Kevin is coming towards me on the left turn, so I think he pushed himself a little too hard and paid the price in the end. But it was a shame to lose a new set of soft tires. Soft His tires were very practical and were arguably the best tires of all time. ”

Piastri: “I hit the brakes in Turn 1 and then I looked in my mirror and saw someone’s tires flying through the air and I thought, ‘That doesn’t look very good.’ ” That’s certainly what I thought. It left a lasting impression on me after that, but I’m sorry. Of course nothing could have been done. Being eligible for a position like that puts you at greater risk for something like that. Unfortunately it all starts on Friday. After that I tried to stay on the top lap. Other than that, just learn as much as you can. It wasn’t an easy weekend. Thanks to everyone’s incredible efforts, we were able to get the car back in 20 minutes, which was no easy task. I was able to complete an extra 70 laps that I wouldn’t have done otherwise. In general, I learned a lot, but also when I go back [to Brazil] next year. ”

Ricardo: “Obviously, there was a pretty big accident in front of us, so there was a lot of debris. I felt like I could get through it, but then the tires hit the Frisbee. I saw it flying off the rim and coming closer and closer.I remember lowering my head and not feeling anything.I was happy. But when I looked in the mirror, I saw the rear wing flying off the rim. I think the tire hit the wing because it was broken. This was clearly frustrating. The funny thing is, as soon as I realized it didn’t hit me, I looked at the wings and thought, “Oh no!”

“When I realized the race might be over, my relief quickly turned to disappointment. It’s funny, when you’re in race mode, I don’t think you think about it at all. But looking back, of course I’m grateful that everyone got away safely. All of this could always be worse. I’m kind of grateful for that, for sure. Looking back on these things now, I wish they didn’t have to affect me. ”
