AFL: Kanu and Enyimba blasted after ‘poor’ jersey scandal against Wydad

The criticism was directed at Enyimba president and former Ajax player Nwankwo Kanu following the club’s poor performance in the last game, reported Soccernet.ng.

The reigning NPFL champions started their match against Wydad Athletic Club Casablanca in the quarter-finals of the First African Football League.

However, a painful mistake by Super Eagles goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo resulted in a penalty for the visiting team, which ultimately turned out to be the only goal of the match.

Enyimba had chances to secure victory, but they were surprisingly wasted, with just one shot on target in 20 attempts. To make matters worse, the team was facing a particular problem: a lack of complete jerseys.

One of the players on the team, Innocent, had his name and number handwritten on his jersey instead of the standard printed version.

While the reasons for this unusual incident remain a mystery, fans have taken to social media to express their regret at the lack of professionalism on the part of the club and its president.

The case is particularly surprising because last season’s league winners were awarded a prize of 100 million naira, which should have alleviated the club’s potential financial difficulties.
