After several months of grueling qualification campaigns, 24 teams qualified for the Continental Championship
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is the standout player for the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, Soccernet.ng reports.
According to Sofacscore, Osimhen is the highest rated player in the qualifying series with a score of 8.18 out of 10.
The Super Eagles striker topped the scoring list with 10 goals in six games. That’s five more goals than his closest rival.
One of Serie A’s most valuable players and most popular strikers, Osimhen is one of the favorites to win the CAF Player of the Year award.
The 24-year-old attacker was recently named in the top 30 shortlist for the Ballon d’Or and will be one of the players to watch at AFCON in January.
Second after Osimhen in the sofa score list is former Bayern Munich striker Sadio Mane with a rating of 8.10.
Mane scored five of Senegal’s 12 goals and helped the reigning African champions qualify for AFCON unbeaten.
Burkina Faso striker Dango Ouattara (7.76) and Mozambican star Jenny Katamo (7.53) follow Mane in the rankings.
Meanwhile, Egypt and Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah (7.48) is in the top five on the continent.
