Former Villarreal winger believes the Super Eagles are serious about winning a fourth continental title
AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze wants the Super Eagles to play their final Group A match against Guinea-Bissau as the most important match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations so far, Soccernet.ng reports Ta.
Nigeria will play Guinea-Bissau on Monday at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan for a place in the knockout stages.
With Jultus aiming for their first AFCON victory, Nigeria can finish top of their group with any number of wins, as long as Equatorial Guinea does not defeat hosts Ivory Coast in the other group stage match.
This will be the fourth time in the past two years that the Super Eagles will face the Wild Dogs.
Nigeria won 2-0 when the two teams met in the group stage of the last AFCON in Cameroon, but lost 1-0 at home during qualifying for that tournament in March 2023. We suffered a shocking loss of 0.
The Super Eagles were energized with a 1-0 win in the second leg in Bissau.
Nigeria’s side’s confidence has been particularly high after the win over hosts Ivory Coast, and Chukwueze believes the victory shows the Super Eagles’ desire to become African champions again.
The AC Milan striker knows that Guinea-Bissau will not be able to beat them, but he is confident that Nigeria will do everything in their power to win against Jultus.
“We played with all our heart (against Ivory Coast). This match shows that we are ready to fight for Afcon,” Chukwueze said, according to the BBC .
“This group is complicated, but the most important game right now is the last one.
“There are no small countries in this Afcon. Guinea-Bissau is a good country.” We played against Guinea-Bissau twice in the qualifying rounds and lost once.
“You must win the last match to pass the group and advance to the next round.”
Nigeria has lost only one match in the AFCON group stage since losing 3-1 on the opening day to Egypt in 2010. In 2019, she lost 2-0 to Madagascar.
