AFCON 2023: ‘This is coming home’- Ex-Chelsea star Mikel Obi makes bold prediction

Nigeria’s Super Eagles last won the Africa Cup of Nations trophy in 2013 and are gearing up to win their fourth AFCON trophy.

Former Chelsea star and Super Eagles legend John Mikel Obi has expressed unwavering confidence ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw scheduled for Thursday, reports Soccernet.ng Reported.

During the AFCON qualifiers, Nigeria national team Super Eagles showed their mettle and secured the top spot in Group A with 15 points. The only defeat was against Guinea-Bissau at his MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Having participated in the official draw process, Mikel is hopeful of bringing home the prestigious AFCON trophy to Nigeria.

The former Stoke City midfielder led the Super Eagles to their third AFCON title in 2013, defeating Burkina Faso in the final.

The former Super Eagles captain is adamant that Nigeria can achieve the same by winning a fourth African Cup of Nations title in Ivory Coast.

In a video shared by CAFonline on social media, Mikel expressed confidence that Nigeria would win and take the trophy back to Nigeria.

“This is coming home. The tournament is coming home, AFCON 2023 is coming to Nigeria,” he said.

Nigeria are camping in Portugal during the international week as preparations for the upcoming tournament intensify.

Buoyed by the belief that their team has what it takes to bring home the trophy again, the Super Eagles are gearing up for friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in hopes of winning their fourth AFCON title .
