A Year After ‘Intent’ Criticism, Simon Doull Teases Babar Azam With ‘Strike Rate’ Praise After PSL Ton

Watch: Simon Doull, who has often been critical of Babar Azam’s scoring rate in T20s, hilariously teased him for his improved batting strike during his 63-ball 111 in the 2024 PSL clash between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi.

In 2023, as Simon Doule reached his century, he slammed Azam Babar on air for slowing down against Quetta Gladiators. Babar started his innings early and he reached 83 off 46 balls, but needed 14 more balls to score the next 17 balls. The sudden drop in hit rate went unnoticed.

“Instead of putting the team first…that’s all that’s going on these days.” Instead of looking for limits, there’s still a lot of firepower waiting for us. The hundreds of players are great and the stats are great, but the team has to come first,” Doule said.

Babar’s team, Peshawar Zalmi, lost the match despite having 240 points on the board, drawing scrutiny for his downturn. A few days after Dour made his comments about Babar, the two had a long conversation.

On Monday, February 26, Babar led Zalmi with another hundred, scoring 111 runs off 63 balls at a strike rate of 176. He reached his fifty in 39 deliveries and needed just 20 balls to reach his 11th .T20 tone, helping Zalmi after 201-5. In the end, he won by eight points.

Duru hosted the post-match ceremony and spoke with Zalmi captain Babar about his ‘Best 100’ and the team’s performance in the match. After the conversation, Mr. Doll said goodbye with the following words: The accuracy was also good,” laughed Babar.
