‘A Breach Of The Code Of Conduct’ – Allan Donald Criticised For Condemning Matthews’ Timed-Out Dismissal

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has sought an explanation from their bowling coach, Allan Donald, after the South Africa great criticised skipper Shakib Al Hasan for a timed-out dismissal against Angelo Matthews during the game against Sri Lanka in New Delhi on November 6.

Matthews became the first player to be released from a time-out in international cricket. The incident happened when Sadheera Samarawickrama reached the finish line after slipping out. Before the all-rounder could be alarmed, he noticed that his helmet strap had broken and immediately signaled to the dugout for a change of equipment.

While the substitute was leaving with his substitute, Shakib asked the umpires to send him off for extra time. Matthews’ own protests were in vain, and the referee ruled him out because he was too late to take guard. On his way back to the pavilion, he remained dissatisfied with the decision and threw his helmet in anger.

This incident divided people in the cricket world into two factions. One camp insists on abiding by the law, while the other criticizes Shakib for violating the “spirit of cricket”. In an interview with CricBlog.net, Donald supported his second group and said the firing was “unfortunate.”

The BCB was not satisfied with Donald’s public statement on the team’s decision and accused him of violating the team’s rules.

BCB officials told ESPNcricinfo: “He could have expressed his personal views at a later stage. He is part of the team management, so when the team takes a decision it is in the code of conduct to speak publicly about it. It’s a violation. He could have discussed it within the team, he could have told the players directly. He could have reported it to the BCB, but he didn’t do it publicly.”< /p>

However, the committee is likely to refrain from punishing Donald as his coaching role will end soon after the World Cup. Donald, who sparked a pace bowling revolution in the country after taking over ahead of Bangladesh’s 2022 tour of South Africa, has decided not to renew his contract.
