Watch: Saim Ayub hit the winning six for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL 2023 final on September 24 to take them to their first ever title.
Guyana, who finished first in the CPL 2023 finals, dreamed of having the ball as they defeated Trinbago Knight Riders for just 94 in 18.1 overs.
Trinbago started well, reaching 24 in three overs, but things started to fall apart. Mark Deyal started first, followed by Chadwick Walton and Nicholas Poulain.
7 At the end of the second half, half of the Trinbago team was back in the hut and the score was 44-5. Keerthy Carty took the lead with his 45-ball 38, taking the score to over 90.
Dwayne Pretorius was a big hit with 4-26 from the over. Spinners Gudakesh Motiye and Imran Tahir barely played, bowling 2-7 and he 2-8 from four overs each.
In response, Saim Ayub gave Guyana another good start. Key Paul was the only teammate to be dismissed for Ayub, who was chasing his target of 95 with nine wickets remaining and six overs.
Ayoub, the second highest run-scorer in the tournament, duly ended the run chase by defeating Zaman Khan by six runs, reaching his fourth fifty of the season in the process.
As Guyana’s players rushed out of the dressing room, he stood still with his arms raised, bat in hand, in a circular motion to celebrate the winning goal.
Guyana has finished second in the CPL as many as five times. This is the first time they have been able to clear the final hurdle.
