Watch: Rehan Ahmed claimed his maiden four-wicket haul in ODI cricket in England’s second match against Ireland today (September 23), one of which was a ripper of a googly to bowlAndy McBrine.
Rehan was the star of England’s young bowling attack against Ireland, who were given a break from the series before all World Cup teams departed for the tournament. After bowling consistently in his first three overs, Will Will hit his second ball of number four, thanks to a brilliant jumping his catch of his jacks, and Harry hit his techter’s key He took a huge wicket.
However, his next wicket was entirely his own doing. He fed the ball around the wicket to the left-handed McBrin, who landed the ball on the off-stump. It curved just far enough from the batsman to slip over the outside edge, and McBrin misread the googly and played on the wrong line, crashing into the wicket.
Rehan celebrated in his usual relaxed manner as he ran around the wicket to receive congratulations from his teammates. He continued to hit Mark Adair in the next over, whose googling again confused the batsman and claimed him LBW. George Dockrell was his latest victim, another Googler who made a mistake.
Lehan were 4-54 after 10 overs and almost got five more bars when Craig Young survived a scream of lbw from the last ball of Lehan’s spell.
