“I was stupid”- Premiership-winning coach admits he passed up chance to sign Boniface

Boniface only joined Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, but he has achieved great things

Club Brugge coach Ronny Deila has revealed that he passed up the chance to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface during Valerenga’s time as coach, Soccer said. Reported.

Boniface has experienced a sharp rise over the past two years. The 22-year-old striker moved to former Norwegian giants Bodø/Glimt in 2019 and, after an excellent three seasons, he moved to Belgian side Union SG in a deal worth €6.1 million.

After a great season in which he scored 17 goals and provided 12 assists in 51 games, Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen took him on.

Boniface has been on fire since joining the club in the summer. His performance has been really impressive, and he has earned 6 goals and 3 assists in 6 games.

Boniface’s career could have easily taken a different path, as he could have started his stay somewhere other than Bodø/Glimt.

Deila, who coached at Vallenga from 2017 to 2020, revealed that Bonifatis was on trial at the club but refused to sign him.

“I made a mistake once, but it had nothing to do with work ethics. Boniface was on trial with me in Valerenga,” Deira told New Blood< /em>

“I didn’t really care about Boniface because I already had a similar striker. Then he went to Bodø/Glimt. Stupid.”< /em>

The Nigerian player has become an important part of the team under coach Xabi Alonso. And with him in the squad, Bayer Leverkusen look set to make a big push towards the Bundesliga title.
