Watch: Umesh Yadav struck two successive sixes off his first two deliveries during Essex’s 2023 County Championship clash against Hampshire at Chelmsford before being dismissed on the third delivery.
Going into the bottom of the second innings with the score at 131-6, Umesh rose quickly at No. 8 and hit his first two balls to a maximum of two before Liam Dawson was caught on a throw for three.
Umesh hit the first ball he faced over the bowler’s head for six, then hit the ball out of the park on the next delivery to race to 12 for two.
However, his cameo ended on the very next ball as Dawson tried to bowl over the wicket. Umesh wanted to land another big hit but he could not clear the rope. Essex lost to his 149-7 and the ball fell safely into the hands of Vince James.
Essex will be looking for a win to stay in contention for the Division 1 title. They declared the innings at his 151 for 8 and set Hampshire’s target at 267.
