Nigerian standout Victor Boniface has won the coveted Bundesliga Player of the Month award for August 2023, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker beat out notable stars such as FC Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Wolfsburg’s Jonas Wind to win this prestigious honour.
The Bundesliga announced in a statement on Thursday that the selection process for this award involves a careful two-stage evaluation.

After joining Bayer Leverkusen from Belgian club Union Saint Giroise in the summer, Boniface has started the league season in excellent form.
The youngster provided a vital assist on his Bundesliga debut in Werkself’s 3-2 win over Leipzig. Boniface continued to shine, scoring two goals in a 3-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday two.
What sets Boniface apart is his incredible shooting record. In August, he took 14 shots, surpassing the record of any other player in the Bundesliga. In the second match alone, Jonas had 11 shots on target against Omrin’s goal. This performance exceeded Harry Kane’s total in Matchdays 1 and 2.
Boniface’s success is not only due to its offensive power. The Super Eagles striker made an impressive 54 tackles and was named the best challenger in the Bundesliga. His tenacious pressing game has further cemented his reputation, giving him an astonishing 43% success rate in duels.

Mr. Boniface’s extraordinary achievements have earned him two awards this month. In addition to being named Player of the Month, he was also named Newcomer of the Month, making him the first player to win both titles in the same month since Erling Haaland in 2020.
Beyond his club achievements, Boniface recorded an assist on his Super Eagles debut, helping Nigeria to a 6-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final qualifier .
