Waldrum continued to experiment for the World Cup in Australia/New Zealand, but one of the biggest casualties was Toni Payne
Super Falcons star Toni Payne revealed he wasn’t sure what position he would play at the World Cup, but was ultimately happy playing as a creative midfielder< strong>soccer reports.
The Super Falcons have performed reasonably well in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup that has just come to a close. They performed well against Canada, Australia and Ireland to advance to the Round of 16.
The driving force behind the Nigerian attack was Sevilla star Payne. She worked tirelessly in the middle of the park and was involved in all of Nigeria’s goals. Payne could have been a winger in that position, but Waldrum decided to use her as a creative midfielder.
Payne revealed that he was unaware of Waldrum’s plans, but enjoyed playing along the way.
“Anyone who knows me knows I’m weak in the number 10 position because I grew up in that position.” Paine told Eagles Tracker.
“When I came to Ajax, I started playing in the wing and forward positions. /em>
“I didn’t even know what position Randy would play me in at the World Cup, but I was ready to play in an important position. Playing as a 10 was a lot of fun.” and I was very happy.”
Payne wasn’t the only one on the team who had to change positions. Michelle Alozie also converted from forward to defender, Ashley Plumpter converted from central defense to full-back, and some of the forwards also had to play as wingers.
