The statement cites the need to investigate the allegations and to prioritize the best interests of the alleged victim, the Brazilian team and the CBF.
The CBF statement quoted by ESPN reads: “Facts made public this Monday regarding Manchester United player Anthony require an investigation and the alleged victim must protect the Brazilian Anthony.” Upon contact, the organization reported that the player had withdrawn from the Brazilian team. “
Manchester United have so far decided not to comment on the allegations, leaving room for further proceedings in the case.
The incident comes just a month after Manchester United made the headlines by deciding not to keep star striker Mason Greenwood facing similar abuse allegations. However, those charges against Greenwood were dropped in his February.
