‘No excuses’: Ravi Shastri slams India’s fielding after they drop three catches

Former head coach of India’s cricket team, Ravi Shastri, has expressed disappointment with India’s field performance in recent cricket matches. The team faced Nepal in their Group A match at Palekele on Monday 4 September, but much was left with the line-up.

India won the toss and decided to bowl first, but field troubles started early in the match. In the game’s first over, Shreyas Iyer dropped a catch while Mohammed Shammi was bowling. The missed opportunity determined the subsequent development.

Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan also failed to create direct chances with their lineups falling short of the high standards that Rohit Sharma’s team has consistently maintained in recent years.

Ravi Shastri didn’t chew his words on a broadcast criticizing India’s performance on the field. He called it “sloppy” and stressed that such inaction is inexcusable. Shastri pointed out that the mistake was as easy as possible, especially from the point of view of the wicket keeper.

“A bastard from India, really!” It’s easy. Enough time. But from a goalkeeper’s point of view, there are no excuses. “This is very easy,” shouted Shastri angrily.

Thanks to these drop catches, Nepal was able to reach its target of 231. In response, India raced to 17/0 in 2.1 overs as play was interrupted by rain.
