LSG vs GT highlights: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), on Sunday (April 7), beat Gujarat Titans (GT) by 33 runs to register their third straight win in IPL 2024. Chasing 164, GT finished their innings on 130 to suffer their third loss in five games.
GT’s chase started on a solid note. Shubman Gill and his new opening partner Sai Sudharsan added 54 runs for the first wicket before the GT captain was clean bowled by Yash Thakur on the last ball of the powerplay. Gill’s dismissal triggered a collapse for GT as they lost three more wickets in quick succession to find themselves reeling at 61 for 4 from 54 for no loss.
Two runs after Gill’s dismissal, Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Kane Williamson for 1 before Krunal Pandya sent back a well-set Sudharsan and Sharath BR in the ninth over. Darshan Nalkande and Vijay Shankar stopped the rot for a while but could not bat their team to a strong position. Pandya broke the stand once again by dismissing Nalkande for 12 to reduce GT to 80 for 5 in the 13th over.
In the 15th over, Thakur dismissed Shankar and Rashid Khan to reduce GT to 93 for 7. The visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 130 runs in the 19th over.
LSG vs GT: LSG innings
Earlier in the game, LSG finished their innings on 163 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. After captain KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bat first, his team could not justify the ball.
Umesh Yadav dismissed the in-form Quinton de Kock for just six runs in the first over before extending Devdutt Padikkal’s poor run in IPL 2024. The GT pacer dismissed the struggling batsman for just seven runs in the third over to leave LSG reeling at 18 for 2.
Rahul and Marcus Stoinis then steadied the ship with a 73-run stand for the third wicket. Darshan Nalkande broke the stand in the 13th over by dismissing Rahul for 33. Unlike Rahul, Stoinis made the most of the start and went on to complete his first fifty of the season before being sent back by Nalkande for 58 in the 15th over.
In the 16th and 17th overs, Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran could only collect 7 and 5 runs respectively before collecting 17 runs from the 18th. Rashid Khan dismissed Badoni for 20 on the very first ball of the 19th over and conceded 12 runs. Spencer Johnson bowled a brilliant final over, conceding only 8 runs despite being hit for a six by Pooran.
