Watch: Khaled Ahmed Bounces Out Mendis, Bowls Karunaratne With Inswinger In game-Changing Over

Watch: In a game-changing over, Bangladesh pacer Khaled Ahmed bowled a vicious bouncer to dismiss Kusal Mendis before bowling out Dimuth Karunaratne with a timber-seeking nip-backer in the morning session on day one of the first Test in Sylhet.

While bowling the 12th over with Sri Lanka at 40-1, Khaled landed the second ball short and wide with extra vigour. Mendis, batting then on 16 off 26, was unsure of whether to play or leave. He ended up going for the cut and pulling out late, but the ball glides into the hands of Zakir Hasan at the gully.

Khaled made further inroads in the last ball of the over by dismissing a set Karunaratne for 17 with a peach. Coming from around the wicket, he landed the ball on length, allowing it to dart in. Karunaratne was drawn into a drive with the ball rattling his stumps in the next moment. Sri Lanka were reduced to 41-3 with Khaled picking up his third wicket in the morning.

The tourists further slipped to 57-5 before captain Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis smashed 102 each to take them to a competitive 280 in the first innings. In reply, Bangladesh lost three wickets for 32 runs before the close of day’s play.
