Joe Root made his way back into the top three of the ICC men’s Test batting rankings following his 31st Test ton in the Ranchi Test against India.
Joe Root scored 122 in the first innings of the Ranchi Test match to move him to third place in the current rankings behind New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and Australia’s Steve Smith. Daryl Mitchell and Babar Azam both fell one place behind him but are still in the top five.
Moving within the top 10, Dimuth Karunaratne moves up one place to 7th place, and Marnus Labuschagne moves up two places to 8th place. Virat Kohli, who is currently on a break, has dropped two places to ninth place, while Harry Brook also withdrew from the Test series due to injury.

Indian youngsters shine
Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his rise towards the top 10. Already in his first four Tests of the series he has scored 655 runs at 93.57 and currently he is 12th in the table. His teammate in the 2020 U19 World Cup, Dhruv Jhler has made a great start to his Test cricket. He was the man of the match at Ranchi, moving up 31 places to take him to 69th place.
In England, Zac Crawley breaks into the top 20 for the first time, moving up 10 places to 17th. He is currently England’s top run-getter in this series. Jonny Bairstow has moved up three places to 25th place, while Ollie Pope has dropped six places to 29th place. Ben Stokes has also dropped 10 places on him and is now 27th.
Anderson out of top ten
In the bowling rankings, James Anderson is out of the top 10. Kuldeep Yadav has moved up 10 places to 32nd place. Shoaib Bashir has made a huge jump, moving up 38 places to take him to 80th place.
In the all-rounder rankings, Root has moved up three places to fourth position behind Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin and Shakib Al Hasan. At the same table, Axar Patel and Ben Stokes each dropped one place to take him to fifth and he to seventh place.
