Wanindu Hasaranga Suspended For Abusing Umpire After Third Afghanistan T20I

Sri Lanka T20I captain Wanindu Hasaranga has been handed a two-match suspension and fined 50 per cent of his match fee for his outburst at an on-field umpire during the third T20I against Afghanistan on February 21 in Dambulla.

The incident occurred after referee Lyndon Hannibal ruled a high full toss from Wafadar Mohmand to Kamindu Mendis as a no-ball. Sri Lanka needed 11 points from three balls when the controversy broke out. They lost the game by his three points.

Hasaranga expressed regret over the decision and said after the match, “This kind of thing should never happen in an international match.” If it was a close game, there shouldn’t have been a problem. But the ball flew that high…if it had flown a little higher, it would have hit the batter in the head.

“If you can’t see that, then this umpire is not suitable for international cricket. He would be much better off doing something else.”

“Hasaranga was found guilty of breaching Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which states that “Hasaranga is guilty of breaching Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. “personal abuse.” ” ICC issued a statement.

As a result of the disciplinary action, Hasaranga was given five demerit points, three of which were due to the incident, and was suspended for one Test, two ODIs or T20Is, whichever comes first. Sri Lanka will be without Hasaranga when they play Bangladesh in their first two T20Is in March.

Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper and batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz was also fined 15 percent of his match fee and deducted points for “failing to follow the instructions of the referee during an international match.” Gurbaz was charged with “changing his grip on the bat on the field despite repeated warnings not to do so,” according to the ICC. He currently has two negative points.
