Nigerian striker Eikor Adams will fear for himself and Montpellier after failing to score in France’s Ligue 1, Soccernet.ng reports.
Adams, 24, has no doubts about his scoring ability, having scored 15 goals in his last 14 games in the Norwegian top flight before moving to France.
After joining Montpellier in August, Adams continued the scoring streak he had interrupted in Norway, scoring seven goals in his first nine games for France.
However, Adams is having a difficult time having failed to score in his last 13 League One games.
The former Lilström star has not scored in a league match since October 29, when he scored a superb brace in Montpellier’s 3-0 win over Toulouse.
Interestingly, Adams’ poor performance coincides with Montpellier’s, with the club winning just one league game since their home game against Toulouse (a 1-0 win against Metz in December). It wasn’t recorded.
With one win from 10 games, Montpellier are in danger of being relegated, while La Parade are currently in 15th place, level on points with Lorient, who occupy the relegation play-off spot.
Montpellier will play 17th-placed Metz again on Sunday. Victory is important for both teams’ chances of survival.
Had Adams been in his prime, he could easily have given Montpellier the lead, but the failed striker is now under pressure to score his first league goal of the year.
Still, Montpellier manager Michel der Zakarian believes Adams is the man who can guide the club through its current difficulties.
In the pre-match press conference, coach Der Zakarian revealed that the Nigerian striker was making the right runs and movements in the match and would be back on the goal line soon.
“Eikor Adams, we talk to him only with staff. We trust him,” Der Zakarian said.
“It’s up to him to be effective in front of goal. There were other attackers in front of him who had holes. He just needs to show the aggression he needs in front of goal. , we must find the goal again.
“He has to keep doing what he’s doing. When he has a chance to do so, it’s because he’s moving well and in the right place.” Then we have to finish. It doesn’t have to be.
“We won’t tell him anything. He’s a big boy. Don’t worry, he’ll be fine.”
Adams reminded many of his scoring prowess when he scored twice in Montpellier’s 4-0 victory over lower-league side Fenny Ornoy in the Coupe de France on January 6. Ta.
