Paarl Royals Confirm Fabian Allen Is Safe After Gunpoint Mugging Incident In South Africa | SA20 2024

Paarl Royals have confirmed that Fabian Allen is safe after he was reportedly mugged at gunpoint in outside a hotel in Johannesburg.

The West Indies all-rounder reportedly had some items stolen outside the Sandton Sun Hotel where he was staying with Pearl Royals in SA20 2024. Cricbuzz reported the incident, and the franchise later released a statement confirming that Allen is now safe.

According to reports, Allen was attacked at gunpoint on the morning of January 25, and his cell phone and personal belongings were taken. Since then, Allen has started his two games for the Royals, both in Durban against the Giants.

A statement released by the Pearl Royals today (February 6) regarding this incident reads: “Following media reports regarding an isolated incident involving Fabian Allen in Johannesburg in the early hours of January 25, 2024, Pearl Royals would like to state the following: Dare West Indian all-rounder. Together with my teammates and support staff, I am enjoying my time in the SA20 safely as we prepare for Wednesday’s all-important eliminator.”

The Royals added that Allen received all necessary support following the incident and that they are committed to the safety of everyone involved.

“The franchise is working closely with the league to ensure the safety and health of our players and employees, as well as free time.”

Pearl Royals finished the SA20 group stage third in the points table and will face Joburg Super Kings in an eliminator on February 7.

Allen has not had a fruitful tournament so far, scoring just 38 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 140.74 and taking two wickets at an economy of 8.87 runs per over. In his last two league games, he missed 11 games.
