Legendary English cricketer Geoffrey Boycott said a few days ago that Indian captain Rohit Sharma is almost 37 years old and is past his cricketing prime, something that the Indian captain’s supporters cannot defend. He repeated what he said on Saturday, saying people should stop defending themselves.
The 36-year-old has had problems in red-ball cricket recently and has failed to live up to his team’s expectations. In the ongoing second Test, Rohit Sharma scored 27 runs in both innings in batsman-friendly conditions. In the first Test against England in Hyderabad, Rohit Sharma made a great start in both innings but failed to build on it.
Jeffrey Boycott says the team should take advantage of his age to play at the highest level.
“Rohit’s supporters have stopped defending the indefensible. He was and still is a great batsman, but no one gets better after 36. We all lose physical strength, reaction power, speed, thinking power, etc. That doesn’t mean he can’t run, but he uses all his experience to fight against age. We have to take advantage of it,” Jeffrey Boycott said.
>A column by Geoffrey Boycott in The Telegraph says that Rohit Sharma is past his best but is still capable of scoring big runs in Indian conditions. However, his England team has a good chance of replicating his 2012 series success.
“Your captain Rohit Sharma is almost 37 years old and is past his prime. He has made some great cameos but he has not scored 100 Tests in four years at home. only twice. They are also weak on the field.”
“This Indian team is ripe for victory and England have a great chance to become the first team in 12 years to beat them at their own stadium.” India’s Virat Kohli Desperate to be absent, Ravindra Jadeja has a hamstring injury and will not take part in the second Test,” Geoffrey Boycott said.
Rohit Sharma’s leadership style was criticized for his defensive stance against the Ben Stokes-led team in the first Test of the series. Ben Stokes’ ability to be proactive in Tests and adapt to the flow of the match seems to have surprised the Indian captain and his team.
