David Warner has backed fellow left-handed opener Marcus Harris to succeed him after he retires from Test cricket.
Warner, who is in the middle of the last Test series, scored 38 runs on the first day of the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan at the MCG. At the end of the day, he named Marcus Harris as Warner’s replacement after the New Year Test in Sydney, which is expected to be his last.
“That’s a difficult question. Obviously it’s up to the voters, but from my standpoint…I think (Harris) is someone who has worked hard and been behind the scenes for a while.” “That’s who she was.” said Warner.
Harris, now 31, made his Test debut against India in Adelaide in 2018 and has been part of Australia’s Test team for some time. But so far, he was able to play only 14 Test matches, with an average of 25, of which his 50 were his 3 and not his 100.
Harris’ last Test was almost two years ago, in the 2022 New Year Ashes Test in Sydney, where he scored 38 runs in the first innings and 27 runs in the second innings.
This season, he did not get off to a good start in the Sheffield Shield, scoring 282 runs in 31 innings from 9 innings. However, he looked in good form in Pakistan’s warm-up match before the first Test of the series. In that match, Harris, who played in the Prime Minister’s eleven, scored 126 runs off 131 balls.
Warner said results would be achieved if voters maintained their faith in him. “He’s always been on tour and he’ll get this chance,” Warner said. “He scored his 100th goal the other day and missed some other games, but he’s always next in line. If the selectors show faith in him, I’m sure he’ll come on. And he’ll play just like him.”
The veteran opener also compared Harris to himself in terms of his batting style and said he would fit well into the team. ” and plays his shot. I think he is the right person. ”
Australia finished the rain-hit opening day with 187 wins and 3 losses from 66 overs, with Hasan Ali, Amar Jamal and Salman Agha sharing the wickets.
