Dessers struggled to perform well in his first few months at Rangers, but improved after Philippe Clement took over as manager. p>
Former Scotland star Derek Ferguson has attributed Cyriel Dessers’ recent improvement to Philippe Clement’s training regime, reports Soccernet.ng.
Dessers joined Rangers in the summer after a failed spell with Italian club Cremonese, and made 29 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing two assists. The 29-year-old hitman joined Gers for €5 million and expectations were high given his previous success with Genk and Feyenoord.
However, Dessers struggled in the first few games under former Rangers coach Michael Beal. Finally, Beale was sacked in his October month and Philippe Clement took over the Glasgow reins.
Rangers have improved rapidly since the Belgian tactician took over, winning nine games and drawing just three. Under his tutelage, Dessers scored his six goals in his last ten games for the club.
Former Rangers midfielder Fagerson has been impressed with the Super Eagles striker so far and believes the reason for this improvement is Clement’s training regime.
“You know what? Maybe the dessers will be a little more energetic.” According to Ibrox News, Clement spoke about how disappointed he was with his fitness and what he was expecting. I’m sure you’ve heard he’s there, so maybe Desser with a 5-10 per cent fit could perform a little bit more,” Feglesson told Open Goal.
“Obviously, he scored again last night (against St. Johnstone). You saw a little bit of the gate. Maybe that little bit of sharpness, fitness, whatever you want to call it, a little bit of that. Maybe that made a difference.
Dessars has been out of the Super Eagles squad for several months, but if he continues his success in Rangers’ last four games before the break, he could almost secure a spot in Nigeria’s 2023 AFCON squad.
