Watch: ‘No Need For That’

Watch: Liam Livingstone holed out during England’s slide to 206-9 as they lost the ODI series to the West Indies. On air, Curtly Ambrose said that there was “no need for” the shot.

Liam Livingstone played a part in saving England before his death. England fell to 49-5 within the first 10 overs after a rain delay, with speedy right-hander Matthew Ford bowling the first three overs.

Ben Duckett and Livingstone had a half-century duel for the sixth wicket, but by the time Duckett had fallen to 71, England were 137-6, with Livingstone I was hoping for a one-point lead. Leads to competitive results.

Two overs later, with 12 overs remaining in the innings, Livingstone came down the track and tried to beat seamer Romario Shepherd for a six. All he could do was throw the ball into the air, where Sherfan Rutherford easily caught it up the middle.

“That wasn’t necessary,” Ambrose said. “I was probably a little annoyed.”

Livingstone scored 45 off 56 balls and it was up to the finish to decide what to do with the remaining 40 overs. There was some nerve in West Indies’ counterattack, but a half-century from No. 3 Keirthy Carty and goals in their 40s from Arik Athanadze and Romario Shepherd led to a 2-1 victory.
