Former England batter Kevin Pietersen believes Jos Buttler batting in the middle order at the 2023 World Cup was a mistake and that he should be opening the batting for England in ODIs.

Wisden.com, Pietersen shared his thoughts on what went wrong for England at the World Cup. In his opinion, England’s poor performance was due to selection problems.
“I think selection was an issue at first,” Petersen said. “It was a bad decision not to choose Harry Brook, so I think there were some problems in the beginning.”
Brook was not included in the reserve squad as senior pro Jason Roy preferred him. However, Roy was left out of the final lineup and Brooke was chosen in his place. At the World Championship, Brook played in his 6 matches, but could not make much of an impact with an average of 28.16 points and over 50 points.
