Pierre Gasly says strategic calls need to be reviewed at F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as Esteban Ocon doesn’t care
After Lewis Hamilton crashed in F1 in Abu Dhabi, damaging the rear of Alpine’s Gasly, the Frenchman was somewhat surprised by the team’s strategy to send Esteban Ocon to the pits first. First up is the pit.
Slightly longer run times and diffuser issues further affected Gasly’s race. This is not the first time Alpine has faced such radio drama. Gasly was quite frustrated in the cockpit and he consulted the race engineer but received no response.
In the end, both Ocon and Gasly finished outside the points, but Gasly was not happy with the decision after the race and reported a post-season review. “Obviously, I wasn’t happy with the strategic decision,” he told Guthrie. “This is under consideration, but we made a mistake and we are confident we will learn from it.
“This shouldn’t happen.” The first vehicle always has priority, and we all know that this shouldn’t happen. So I’m sure we’ll learn from it and I’m sure it won’t happen again. I don’t know [why Alpine chose this strategy]. I think the main conversation will take place in the office, and I’m sure it will happen. “That shouldn’t have happened,” Gasly summed up.
Teammate Ocon was not involved in commenting on Gasly’s recent radio play. “To be honest, I don’t care,” he said. “More important is to understand what has happened this season. There have been quite a few ups and downs in terms of performance and pace. Unfortunately, we are not fast enough to be in the top 10 and get points. There was no. And that consistency clearly shows that we need to improve. ”
