The Super Falcons had an impressive year and were given some credit for it
Nigeria’s Super Falcons are among the five finalists for the Team of the Year category at the 2023 CAF Awards, reports Soccernet.ng.
The Super Falcons did not perform well in the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, but improved in 2023. Although they did not make it to the World Cup finals, they were a very impressive team.
The team, coached by Randy Waldrum, was selected from a group consisting of Canada, Australia and Ireland. Also, expectations were very low due to the pre-tournament hustle between the team and his NFF.
However, they had three great performances in the group stage, securing second place in their group.
Unfortunately, their progress came to a halt when they faced England in the Round of 16. The Super Falcons were a good team against the European champions, but in the end they had poor finishing and lost on penalties.
Following their impressive performance at the World Cup, CAF nominated the Super Falcons as one of five teams in the Women’s Team of the Year award category.

South Africa, Morocco, Zambia and Senegal are joining Nigeria. Meanwhile, Waldrum was nominated for the Coach of the Year award along with Desiree Ellis, Jerry Tshabalala, Reynaldo Pedros and Mediel Caixoli.
