Australian captain Pat Cummins celebrated his team’s triumphant 2023 World Cup campaign as “bigger than the Ashes”.
Australia won nine consecutive games, ending India’s 10-game winning streak, and clinched the 2023 World Cup trophy with a six-wicket victory in the final in Ahmedabad.
Australia have now won six of the 13 Men’s World Cups held in five countries. They also became the first team since 2007 to win a World Cup that was not hosted or co-hosted by their country. “Yes, I think so too,” Cummins replied. “The Ashes are special, but they are played every 18 months or two years, making it a two-horse race. Maybe this has only happened two or three times in my career, but to play in front of a crowd of over 100,000 people and win in India, well, it’s even better. Nothing great.”
Australia have held the urn since regaining the Ashes with a 4-0 home win in the 2016/17 season. They also beat England 4-0 in the 2020/21 season and drew 2-2 in the 2019 and 2023 England series. Cummins himself is a captain and has held the pot for two series now.

However, Cummins agreed that “Test cricket remains the pinnacle for him” because “Test cricket is more challenging in every way than any other format”.
Cummins loves Test cricket and its history, but feels that “T20 sometimes deviates from that”, but “when you go to India and see them watching T20 every night” Thoughts change. And as more countries join in and new fans come to cricket, it’s hard to argue with the idea that T20s can never be good for cricket in general. ”
