Ex-Lens and Portsmouth star Utaka praises former Flying Eagles forward

Super Eagles legend John Utaka played for the likes of Reims, Rennes, Montpellier and Portsmouth and was known for his fast pace during his heyday.

Former Super Eagles star John Utaka has praised Nigerian striker Eikor Adams, highlighting the quality he brings to the Montpellier team, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 23-year-old moved to Ligue 1 in the summer transfer window, joining from Norwegian club Lilleström for a fee of around €4.5 million.

He has been in great form since then, scoring seven goals in Ligue 1 in the 2023/24 season, drawing praise from his compatriot who manages the club’s youth teams.

Utaka emphasized that the former Flying Eagles striker is an intelligent striker who can adapt quickly. He also pointed to Adams’ development ambitions and his understanding of his role at the club.

“He’s a good kid, intelligent and adapts quickly. He wants to progress. He knows his role here. He knows that he is beneficial to the team. If he realizes that, that’s the most important thing,” Utaka said.

Given his impressive scoring record, it is expected that Adams will be called up to the Super Eagles, especially considering Taiwo Awoniyi’s injury setback in the Nigeria national team.
