Does the Saints have a plan for Onuachu? Southampton gives verdict on red-hot Super Lig goal poacher

Paul Onuachu joined Trabzonspor on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window after an unsuccessful spell at Southampton.

Soccernet.ng reported that English champion club Southampton have decided to sign Paul Onuachu of Nigeria, who is currently playing in Turkey.

According to reports in Italian media, Trabzonpol want to sign the Super Eagles striker on a permanent contract. However, Southampton have no interest in selling him, which could prevent a move.

The outstanding Nigerian striker originally joined Saints from Belgian club KRC Genk in the January transfer window. However, his tenure was considered unsuccessful as he failed to score a goal in 18 appearances for the club.

As a result, Onuachu was loaned to Burgundy Blues in the Super League, where he has enjoyed success so far, scoring six goals in eight games.

Southampton currently sit fourth in the EFL standings, nine points behind Leicester City, and if their form continues, a return to the English Premier League is a realistic prospect.

Southampton are reported to have future plans for Onuachu to return in 2024, with him likely to be a key player up front as they prepare for a return to the Premier League.

After signing a three-year contract in January, Onuachu has time to establish himself in England unless an attractive transfer deal lures him away from Southampton.
